Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Trace (“the App”) handles information when you use our iOS, watchOS, and macOS apps and related services.

1. Summary
Trace is a focus and productivity app. Most of your data stays on your device. We do not operate user accounts, cloud servers for your focus data, or third-party analytics in the App.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store on our servers, or sell:
- Your name, email address, or phone number (unless you email us for support)
- Focus session history on our servers
- Location data
- Contacts, photos, or microphone recordings
- Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking
- Data for third-party analytics or advertising
3. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData and related system storage):
- Focus sessions — start/end times, duration, activity type, timer mode (stopwatch, countdown, Pomodoro)
- Activities / session types — names, colors, icons you configure
- Daily goals and progress
- Standards (habits) — rules, completion logs, and related history
- Journal entries
- Scheduled tasks and day plans
- App preferences — appearance, notification settings, sound choices, onboarding state, and similar settings
- Active timer state — shared between the App, widgets, Live Activities, and App Intents via an App Group container so timers stay accurate across surfaces
This data is used only to provide App features. We do not receive copies of this data on our servers.
4. Apple Services We Use
4.1 In-App Purchases (StoreKit)
If you purchase Trace Pro, payment and subscription management are handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID. We receive only what Apple provides to developers for purchase validation (for example, transaction and subscription status). We do not receive your payment card number.
4.2 Notifications
If you allow notifications, the App schedules local notifications on your device for purposes such as:
- Focus session end alerts
- Daily goal reminders
- Post-goal celebrations
- Scheduled task reminders
- Trial-related reminders (if applicable)
Notification content is generated on your device. We do not send push notifications from our servers.
4.3 Screen Time / App Blocking (Optional)
If you enable app blocking, the App uses Apple’s Screen Time and Family Controls APIs to shield apps and websites you select while a focus session is running. Your blocking selections and authorization status are handled by Apple’s frameworks on your device. We do not receive your Screen Time data on our servers.
4.4 Widgets and Live Activities
Widgets and Live Activities read timer and related state from on-device App Group storage to display your active session. This data is not sent to us.
4.5 Apple Watch Companion
If you use Trace on Apple Watch, session and timer information may be transferred between your Watch and iPhone using Apple’s WatchConnectivity. That communication stays within Apple’s device-to-device framework; we do not operate a backend that receives it.
4.6 Background Audio
If you play optional background sounds during a focus session, audio plays locally on your device. We do not record audio.
4.7 App Store Review Prompt
The App may use Apple’s standard in-app review prompt. We do not track whether you rate the App.
5. Information You Send to Us
If you contact us at traceyourprogress@gmail.com, we receive whatever information you choose to include in your message (for example, your email address, device model, iOS version, and description of an issue). We use that information only to respond to you and improve the App.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- On-device App data remains on your device until you delete it or delete the App.
- You can remove App data using Settings → Initialize all data inside Trace (where available).
- Deleting the App removes local App data from your device, subject to how iOS handles app containers and backups.
- Support emails are retained only as long as needed to handle your request.
7. iCloud and Backups
Trace v1 does not sync your focus data to our servers. Your data may still be included in device backups (for example, iCloud Backup or local encrypted backups) according to your Apple device settings. We do not control Apple backup behavior.
8. Children’s Privacy
Trace is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has contacted us, email traceyourprogress@gmail.com and we will delete the correspondence.
9. Your Choices
- Notifications: Allow or deny in iOS Settings → Trace → Notifications.
- Screen Time: Allow or deny when prompted; manage in iOS Settings → Screen Time.
- Purchases: Manage or cancel subscriptions in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- On-device data: Delete via in-app reset or by uninstalling the App.
10. Data Security
Because your focus data stays on your device, its security depends largely on your device passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and Apple’s platform protections. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but we design Trace to minimize off-device exposure of your personal focus data.
11. International Users
Trace is available through Apple’s App Store worldwide. On-device processing follows your device’s locale and Apple’s platform rules. If you contact us from outside your home country, your email may be processed where we read and respond to mail.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at https://www.reotrace.app/privacy and change the effective date above. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
